Someone asked some time ago, in 2009 here, what is a "flightgear", well, I believe the literal meaning of it is the "gear" you need to "fly". A flight gear is for example the suit that you need to fly a F-35. Chek this one here: http://www.f-16.net/f-16_forum_viewtopic-t-13024.html

Mark,

Yes, TerraSync does do that. You CAN download scenery beforehand and install it manually (actually done through another little app) but TerraSync works seamlessly even on my mediocre internet broadband connection.

Mark, there is indeed such a tool: TerraSync. Info can be found at our wiki http://wiki.flightgear.org/index.php/TerraSync, which is also a great source for info about other subjetcs.

Okay, thanks Alexander - downloading now :) Is it true there's a separate app that downloads scenery in the background as you approach it? Excuse my ignorance - I haven't looked at FG for many years, so have to start learning from scratch again.

Mark,

I am running 2.0 on Snow Leopard at the moment flawlessly, the only issues have been with a couple of aircraft. Its not exactly representative of what I'm aware is coming out in the next official release, but its pretty good!

Thanks for the clarification, Liam. I was looking at this page - if I download 2.0 for OSX, is it likely to work okay, or should I hold off for a bit?
