Limits on uploads etc

Hi folks,

There's been a fair bit of discussion recently regarding putting some limits in place on uploads, which primarily came about due to the huge number of screenshot entries for last month. Whilst it's terrific that there's that much interest, it can get a little out of hand sometimes.

After reading all of the correspondence I've received from members, the consensus seems to be along the lines of the following:

A limit of 10 entries per month per person for the screenshot competitions
A limit of 2 video uploads per day per member
A limit of 8 screenshots (in sections other than the competiton sections) per day per member

I don't want to be overly restrictive, so if you've got 9 screenshots you want to upload on one particular day, we're not going to have you shot at dawn!

I think one of the main reasons to limit uploads in this way is that it gives all members a shot at having their work seen. If we've got hundreds of screenshots and videos being uploaded each day, it's easy for stuff to disappear without a trace.

So, your feedback, please!

I agree with limitations. This not only helps you, but it also pushes "us" to be more professional and selective as to what we upload. This is a great site, and to stay great if must be efficient and easy to run. Personally I think 8/day is still too many where 8/month would be more realistic, and these could only be uploaded during the last week of the month.

No video unless it includes scantily clad Scandinavian type (Widar excluded), no pictures of fantastic manoeuvres as these make others look bad, no big planes as these must use up more space than the little ones and finally, no good landings. The 8 per day is just a starting point, really. I'm happy for it to be any number and will go with the majority.

Permalink Reply by Mark Avey on February 7, 2010 at 6:00pm: We had about 35 members join for Jan I think. You can delete posted screenshots, but not sure that would help, as people could then upload 200 during the month and delete 190 of them. That wouldn't be good with search engines etc either.
